The Carpet Series @ Inwood Art Works
Pigeonwing Dance will perform The Carpet Series at Dyckman Marina, presented by Inwood Art Works prior to their Filmworks Alfresco screening of “Nosotros Los Nobles”. The event is free, but please RSVP at: http://www.inwoodartworks.nyc/event/nosotros-los-nobles-nobles/
The Carpet Series is a compact outdoor performance taking place on a 5×8 Persian carpet in parks and on sidewalks. Showcasing the talents of five highly trained contemporary ballet dancers, this virtuosic and intricate dance is a study in contrasts: silk with asphalt, structured choreography with improvisation, and private space in public.
Since its July 2020 premiere, The Carpet Series has been performed over 150 times in all five boroughs of NYC. Locations include: the New York Botanical Garden, Wave Hill Gardens, the Museum of Arts and Design, Culture Lab LIC, and Governors Island.
Film Works Alfresco is is New York City’s only English and Spanish language free outdoor cinema series. Organized by Inwood Art Works, it presents independent and popular films with local relevance that culturally resonate with the Northern Manhattan community.
The Carpet Series is generously supported by NoMAA Small Grants for Individual Artists, made possible with the support of NewYork-Presbyterian and the Hispanic Federation.
Additional funding is provided by the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Corporation and the Mertz Gilmore Foundation.
