OPEN CALL for Ritual, Rites & Routine: Performing the Human Experience

Submission Deadline: Monday, September 30, 2024 (extended)
SUBMISSION FORM LINK

We invite artists to submit works that explore the many aspects of the subjects: ritual, rites, and routine. Since the beginning of time, humans have sought to engage in practices or set activities — personal or collective — that define or demonstrate their beliefs, philosophies, traditions and identities. Many of these customs or acts are prescribed by a community or passed down through families. Some are more mundane as experienced through gesture or words. Others revolve around objects – some spiritual others simply revered. Identity is often shaped by these ceremonies. Through these actions, we may give order or structure to our day or perhaps they help us perform love or grief. We invite artists to consider all aspects of the subject — from the mundane to the spiritual, societal to the personal, from the individual to the larger collective. Some examples to consider may be: birth, marriage, and death ceremonies; culturally specific traditions; or even your individual morning coffee ritual!
