It has been 10 years this year since I left Japan and moved from Tokyo to Inwood. When I first came to New York in 2000, I thought I wanted to live here someday. Why do you live in Inwood? I always answer that Inwood is just like the town I grew up in. I can see the stars at nights when I come home from downtown, the natural surroundings, and the clean air. I can hear the sounds of children laughing from the street, train whistles, and owls’ voice. The land of history and the nature where I can feel the slow ticking of time in a busy city. Perhaps that is why I am able to drown out the loneliness. While I feel that 10 years have already passed since I started to live here, I also feel that it has been 10 years in the blink of an eye. Looking back on the past 10 years, I feel that I will continue to live here in Inwood.
