Jane Fine Opening Reception
Violet Assault
My paintings teeter on the edge between abstraction and figuration. In this exhibition, each piece has a horizon line and as a result they appear as imaginary, fantastical landscapes. Shapes that look like trees, mountains, picket fences and flowers exist in a land of indecipherable forms. The predominantly violet hue in many of these pieces suggests dusk, a time when our vision blurs and magic seems close at hand.
Many thanks to MacDowell where almost all of these paintings were begun during a residency in June 2019.
