Arts ON AIR presents Dancers of the Met
Arts ON AIR is proud to present to you: Dancers of the Met!
On June 27th, the Dancers of the Met, with Met Chorus Artists, Met Orchestra Musicians, and additional collaborators, present an evening centering around the work of Juilliard alumni Michelle Vargo, in a visual and musical love letter of survival and resilience to all who stayed in NYC this past year (curated by Maria Phegan).
Three of Vargo’s recent works will be performed by dancers Brian Gephart, Michelle Joy, Ayaka Kamei, Melissa Sadler, and Vargo. The presentation also includes musical performances from Rodgers and Hart and Ira and George Gershwin, sung by Met Chorus Artist Anne Nonnemacher and accompanied by Brian Fitzsousa, and a string quartet performing Verdi’s Ave Maria from Othello, arranged by Scheindlin, featuring musicians Sylvia Danburg Volpe (violin), Julia Choi (violin), Dov Scheindlin (viola), and Suzanne Saba Hughes (cello).
The evening culminates in Vargo’s piece to Handel’s Lascia ch’io pianga – “I’m Here… Now” – bringing the Met dancers, quartet, and soprano together once more, as would be in normal times, and a reminder to both the artists and the audiences that we are in fact still here…together.
