“To Be or Not To Be, a 501(c) 3”

Our first of three FREE technical assistance work of the year will be:

Becoming a nonprofit corporation with 501(c)(3) status comes with significant advantages, namely, eligibility for public and private grants, and protection from personal liability. However, there are also tradeoffs. Some disadvantages include regulations and restrictions, and significant amounts of paperwork.

This workshop provides a breakdown of the key advantages and disadvantages for artists thinking about becoming a charitable organization.

The workshop will be presented by Marcel Braithwaite, who is the Dir of Community Engagement at the NYC Police Athletic League, Board Chair of the NYS Network for Youth Success, and Advisory Board Member of the CUNY School of Professional Studies Youth Studies Program Advisory Board. Born in New York City, and now a resident of West Harlem, Mr. Braithwaite is a 20-year youth development professional and a lifelong performing artist and producer.

Opening night of “Hair: Untangling Identity” at United Palace hosted by Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance was fantastic!

I’m always grateful to show in my city. I met so many lovely people yesterday that felt like familia. To show art work I created that unites gives me the fuel to keep painting!
